IMSAR

The Institute of Solid Mechanics of the Romanian Academy

The Institute of Solid Mechanics of the Romanian Academy (IMSAR) is an organisation for advanced fundamental and application research in the field of solid mechanics. IMSAR has its origin in the Institute of Applied Mechanics Traian Vuia established in 1949 under the aegis of Romanian Academy. In 1965, the Centre of Solid Mechanics worked as an independent research institute. Between 1977 and 1989, the Centre was a Department of the Institute of Physics and Technology of Materials, belonging to the former National Committee for Nuclear Energy. In 1990 this research Department became the actual Institute of Solid Mechanics of the Romanian Academy. Since 1949, the fundamental and interdisciplinary research undertaken either independently or in partnership with other Romanian and international universities and research institutes, has been and continues to be the focus of the Institute’s activity.
