About conference

European scientists, experts and representatives of local authorities meet in Bucharest at the Science meets Regions Conference to discuss how we can convert science into policy advice.

The event takes place on 12th of June 2019, at the National Library of Romania, at 11.00 am and is organized by the Ilfov County Council in collaboration with the Joint Research Center of the European Commission.

Marian Petrache, President of the Ilfov County Council: The objectives of the event are to bring scientists and policymakers together, to encourage collaboration, to discuss relevant local policies, using the results of scientific research. In addition, we want to present the essential contribution that science has in the evolution of society.

In Ilfov County, in Magurele, is located the most powerful laser in the world, ELI NP, in Magurele. Magurele City hosts the most important research platform in Romania. The Ilfov County Council is also planning to create a Scientific Park at Magurele. There is already a feasibility plan, we have discussions with the European Investment Bank for a 15 million euro loan and we hope to start building the Park in September 2020.

A scientific study about the potential  development of Magurele City will be presented at the Science meeting Regions Conference. The objective is to transform the city into a smart city taking in consideration the public policies based on the results of scientific research.
